Children

Christian Education is extremely important at the Presbyterian Church at Woodbury.  Our Director, Judy Platt, brings energy and creativity to the programming for all ages, especially children.  Below you will find a description of many of the programs offered for children of all ages.  For more information, e-mail Judy at judy.platt@pcwoodbury.com or click here.

Children’s Message:  Early in the worship service, the children are invited to come up to the front pew for a faith message prepared just for them.  After the message, children ages 3-5 may go to a beginner’s class in the church school for the rest of the worship hour.

Church School: A class is held for everyone at 10:45 a.m. Sunday mornings.

  • 2 year olds
  • 3 and 4 year olds
  • Kindergarten - 1st grade
  • 2nd-3rd grades
  • 4th grade
  • 5th-6th grades
  • Junior High
  • Senior High

Vacation Bible School:  Our church is part of a group of churches that have V.B.S. together in July for 5 days.  We rotate churches among the Presbyterian Church, Kemble Methodist, St. Stephen’s Lutheran, St. Pat’s Catholic, and Central Baptist.

Rally Day:  At the start of the Church School season in September, some of the classrooms are transformed into places in the Bible.  Stories of the Old and New Testaments are re-enacted to make the Bible come alive.  Elijah defeating the prophets of Baal, Moses parting the Red Sea, the walls of Jericho falling down, the Parable of the Good Samaritan, and Peter’s escape from jail are a few of the stories from the past four years.  Everybody in the church is invited to walk through the stories.

Hayride:  This annual fall adventure sponsored by the Christian Education Task Force includes riding in a wagon full of straw/hay through a wooded campground, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over an open fire on a sandy beach, and enjoying the fall weather.  This event is fun for all ages!

Advent Wreath Making Supper:  In the evening of the first Sunday of Advent, the church families come to a soup and sandwich supper to make an Advent wreath of live evergreen cuttings.  Each family is also given the traditional set of four candles to put in the wreath to be lit each of the four Sundays of Advent.  A variety of other craft options for different ages are also provided.  Supper starts at 5 p.m., and wreaths are finished in time to attend the Advent Worship at 7:30 p.m.

Christmas Pageant:  The story of the nativity re-enacted by the children of the church.  At the Christmas Eve Family Worship Service, the shepherds, wisemen, and angels come to honor the birth of the Baby Jesus to Mary and Joseph of Nazareth.

Church Picnic:  Usually held in June at Washington Lake Park, picnic and games are offered for all ages.  This is a great event to wrap up our programming year and kick off summer.
