Our World
The Mission Task Force oversees the mission opportunities of the church on the local, national, and international level. It meets the first Monday of the month at 7:30 PM in the Lounge. At the local level, we contribute money to such groups as Urban Promise, Mother-Child Residential Home, Princeton Seminary, and Ranch Hope. We sponsor Handy Helpers, who do jobs for shut-ins each month, and contribute to the GWCM Food Bank, staffed with church members.
We have sent summer mission teams to Maine for about 15 years to repair homes in rural areas and in 2006 sent a team to work in the bayou area of Louisiana. Congregation members are involved by contributing food, money, and by being prayer partners with the team members.
On the international arena, we sponsor missionaries working in Nepal and Haiti. At the present time, a young woman from our congregation is doing mission work in Costa Rica with some financial help and prayers from this church. We have also sponsored mission trips to Honduras and Haiti with approximately 10-12 participating churches.
Twice a year we have Mission Dessert Night where the mission teams or representatives of groups we contribute to share their stories. It is always an interesting presentation that keeps us informed about how we can make a difference in our world, no matter how big or small the project. Fair Trade Coffee Sales
The Mission Task Force supports Fair Trade through the monthly sale of coffee, tea and cocoa. Through participation in Equal Exchange's Interfaith Program, we are part of an effort to assure that farmers throughout the world receive a fair price for their products, obtain access to credit and technical support, and gain a trading partner they can trust. Through a simple purchase we can reach out to people in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Sales take place on the third and fifth Sundays of the month in the Chapel following the service. All products are sold at cost. For more info, visit
