Youth Overview
The purpose of Youth Ministry at this church is to lead teenagers into a meaningful relationship with Christ. This is done through building relationships with the teens, offering a healthy environment in which to explore their faith, and service opportunities to share their gifts and talents. All teenagers of any background are invited and welcome to join our Youth Groups. Your continued prayers are appreciated as the Lord moves through the lives of these amazing teenagers!
Programming for the teenagers at The Presbyterian Church is offered for 4th-12th
grade. The grade groupings are:
 |
Melody Newton,
Youth Director |
4th-6th grade – Preteen Group
7th-8th grade – Junior High
9th-12th grade – Senior High
The Preteen Group typically meets the second and fourth Tuesday nights of the month in the basement of the church. We play some games starting at 6:00pm, dinner is served at 6:30pm, and then we have fellowship, games, and a Bible lesson from 7-8pm upstairs in the Rock (Youth Room, upstairs hallway).
The Junior High meets on Thursday nights from 6-8pm in the Rock. We play games, do activities and Service Projects, and do Bible Study. Every other year, 7th and 8th graders also have the opportunity to join the Youth Confirmation Commissioning (YCC) Class. This meets every Sunday from September to June, and also has out-of-class activities, including retreats and service projects. At the end of the year, these youth then join the church. A class will be forming Fall of 2010.
The Senior High meets weekly on Monday nights from 6:00-8:00pm in the Rock. This group enjoys learning about God through playing games, doing skits, and expressing themselves in creative ways in Bible Study. We also meet Sunday mornings in the Rock at 11 am for Sunday School.
Each group also participates in Big Events each month. We usually offer a service project (such as the animal shelter, the Food Bank, visiting a nursing home) as well as a fellowship activity (such as bowling, holiday parties, movies). Weekend-long retreats are offered for Junior High (winter) and Senior High (fall and spring). The Senior High also goes on a Mission Trip in the summer; our past trips have been to Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and North Carolina. Next year, the trip will be to Toronto, Canada! YMTA:
The Youth Ministry is run by the full-time Youth Director, Melody Newton. But she can’t do it all alone! The Youth Ministry Task Force meets monthly to discuss upcoming events, organize volunteers, and pray for the ministry. The Task Force is made up of a group of wonderful adults who have a heart for youth: Bunny Dougherty (who teaches the YCC Class), Sue Beane (YMTA Chairperson), Ron Mohring, Hal Reeder, and Liz Samanns. If you would like to join YMTA, click here to contact us.
